Medical Facilities
Excellent health care facilities, both locally and regionally, are very accessible for the residents of Westminster. With the Carroll Hospital Center serving as the cornerstone, there are numerous medical practitioners, offices and facilities in the Westminster area to keep you in good health.
Founded in 1961 as Carroll County General Hospital,
Carroll Hospital Center, 200 Memorial Avenue, is a great example of a quality, community, non-profit health care provider. Staffed by more than 400 physicians representing 38 medical specialties, this expanding medical institution is a 218-bed, non-profit, acute care facility that offers the latest in medical technology, experienced medical professionals in a variety of specialties and a continuum of programs and services to meet the needs of the community. As Carroll County General Hospital became the Carroll Hospital Center in 2003, the hospital opened its' new 30,000sf Emergency Department, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and 37 special treatment areas, as part of the hospital's largest expansion project in history. Additionally, the hospital center completed construction of a new five-story, inpatient "bed tower" that aids in the hospital's mission of bringing nurses closer to the bedside than ever before and resulting in more time for them to care for patients. Major projects currently underway on the hospital campus include the construction of a 75,000-square-foot medical office building on Stoner Avenue and a five-level, 716-space parking garage located near the hospital's main entrance.
The Carroll Hospital Center also offers satellite programs and services, such as the
Carroll Cancer Center,
Carroll Hospice, Dixon Imaging Center and medical office buildings & labs in Eldersburg, Hampstead, Manchester, Mt. Airy, Reisterstown and Taneytown. The Carroll Cancer Center is a 13,000sf facility located on the hospital campus and offers advanced care in radiation and medical oncology. Accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP), Carroll Hospice offers inpatient and home-based care for those patients needing end-of-life hospice care. Inpatient hospice care is provided at
The Dove House located at 292 Stoner Avenue. The Dixon Imaging Center is conveniently located on the campus of Carroll Hospital Center, in the Richard N. Dixon Building at 291 Stoner Avenue. The 12,000sf imaging facility is a joint venture between Advanced Radiology and the hospital, and provides all outpatient radiology services for the community, as well as inpatient MRI services.

Assisted Living Facilities
The Westminster area is fortunate to have four distinct assisted-living communities. Some of the communities, like
Carroll Lutheran Village and
Westminster Ridge, are continuing care communities where senior citizens can transition from independent living units through assisted living units to long-term nursing care. The others,
Summerville at Westminster and
Golden Crest, focus more on the assisted-living experience.
