Police Station Tours (1 Hour)
The Westminster Police Department offers community groups of various sizes and ages, a tour through the police station. The group will observe the operation of the different divisions. A police officer will describe the responsibilities and duties of each section and explain how the police department functions on a regular day.
Crime Prevention Lectures (1-2 Hours)
Crime Prevention lectures are offered to various communities and neighborhoods to help instruct residents in how to maintain their community as a safer place to work and live. The program includes, "What to do before a Burglar Comes", "Operation Identification" and "Neighborhood Watch". This talk will make citizens more aware of their surroundings and will provide suggestions on how to protect themselves from any unexpected guests.
Home or Business Security Survey (1 Hour)
A trained police officer will conduct a survey of the residents home or business and make them aware of the improvements or steps they can take to better secure their property and provide security for each of their family members or employees.
Personal Safety Lectures (1-2 Hours)
It's important to realize that anyone can be a victim of a personal crime. Personal Safety will give you the facts and some tips on prevention. This program provides a understanding of how to protect yourself by reducing the risk and taking certain precautions when you are in your home, away from your home, shopping in a store, or in your vehicle.
Safety Belt Display (As requested)
This Safety Belt Display will demonstrate and provide information concerning the importance of wearing a safety belt, utilizing a child safety seat correctly, and the benefits of air bags.
Drug Display (As requested)
The drug display contains information concerning various different types of drugs and their harmful effects on the body. The display includes an exhibit of the various drugs used illegally and incorporates a series of handout materials for children and teens.
D.A.R.E. Display (As requested)
This display depicts the Drug Abuse Resistance Program as it is offered in schools nation wide and in the local school district. The D.A.R.E. program teaches students in the sixth grade in Carroll County, to recognize and resist the many pressures which may influence them to experiment with drugs and violence.
Safety Talks to Youth (30 minutes)
This program combines traffic safety, 911, stranger danger, and police roles in a lecture for students at the age of 10 or under. The program stresses that police officers are your friends.
Bicycle Safety Lecture and Inspection (30 minutes lecture - 15 minutes/bicycle)
Two thirds of bicycle accidents in Maryland involve bicyclist under the age of 16. A trained police officer will teach safe cycling practices and review bicycle laws including recent helmet regulations. An officer can examine a persons bicycle and give input on some safety measures before riding an unsafe vehicle on the road.
Presentations with McGruff (As requested)
A police officer will accompany McGruff to a location and introduce him as the Crime Dog which can "Take a bite out of Crime". McGruff and his partner will provide information on crime prevention and offer other safety tips.
National Night Out For Crime (During the month of August)
To assist neighborhoods in promoting the "National Night Out for Crime" we will provide information on how to organize a "Night Out Party" in your neighbor and help support your efforts by providing officers and hand out material. Call for the specific date.
Child Print (By appointment only)
Each year, thousands of children are classified as missing. By having your child fingerprinted you are joining concerned parents who are interested in having identification information available. This program is free, call for a appointment.
