Q: Why Did I Get This Citation?

A vehicle, registered or leased to you, was photographed by an automatic camera connected to a traffic signal, that is only active when the light is red (not yellow or green). Vehicles crossing the stop bar after the light turns red are detected automatically and two photographs are taken. Superimposed on each photograph is the date, time, location and time into the red signal when the violation occurred. An example of the superimposed data bar appears below.

P:  ¿Por qué recibí una citación?

R:  Un vehículo registrado a su nombre ó alquilado por usted, fue fotografeado por una cámara automática conectada a una señal de tráfico, que se activa solamente si la luz del semáforo está roja (no amarilla, ni verde).  Vehículos cruzando la línea blanca de pare después de que la luz del semáforo cambia a roja, son detectados automáticamente y se fotografían 2 veces.  En cada fotografía se sobrepone una barra de información,  con la  fecha, la hora, el lugar y el momento (tiempo) específico en que se cruzó la luz del semáforo, pasó a roja y la violación de tránsito se cometió.  Un ejemplo de la barra de información sobrepuesta en la fotografía aparece al final de esta página.

Q: Is This Citation a "Traffic Ticket"?

No. This citation is not considered a "moving violation." It is a civil citation holding the registered owner or lessee responsible for the violation (similar to a parking ticket).

NO POINTS CAN BE ASSESSED FOR THIS VIOLATION AND IT WILL NOT RAISE YOUR INSURANCE RATES!

P:  ¿Es la citación una multa de tráfico?

R:  No.  Esta citación no es conciderada una violación de tráfico.  Es una citación civil que hace responsable al dueño del vehículo por la violación  (similar a una multa de estacionamiento).

Q: Can I Contest This Violation?

Yes. You may request to appear in District Court by completing the Request a Court Date form on the rear of your citation. The Request for Court Date form must be received at least five days prior to the “Due Date” shown on the front of your citation. If you appear in Court, the maximum amount you can be charged is a $100 fine and court costs. You will be notified by mail of the court date. If you do not receive a notice within 30 days, call the Westminster Police Department at (410) 848-1638.

P:  ¿Puedo apelar/protestar esta violación?

R:  Sí.  Usted puede apelar/protestar esta violación.  Para esto debe de pedir una cita en la Corte de Distrito, completando el formulario de “Request a Court Date” que aparece en la parte de atrás de su citación.  El formulario de “Request a Court Date” debe de ser recibido al menos 5 (cinco) días antes de la fecha de vencimiento (“Due Date”) que aparece en la parte de alfrente de su citación.  Si usted aparece en Corte, la cantidad máxima que se le puede cobrar son $100 (cien) dólares más los gastos de Corte.  Usted será notificado por correo regular de la fecha de su cita en  Corte.  De no recibir una notificación antes de los 30 (treinta) días, llame al Departamento de la Policía de Westminster al

Q: How Do I Arrange for Accommodations for Persons with Disabilities?
